@peacokle the Southern Cross can definitely be seen elsewhere, but the use of the four stars is something unique to New Zealand's flag, while countries like Samoa, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Brazil use 5 or more.

really??? i prefer the old one. I'm not a huge fan of the stars.. they seem a little cliche and would not lock up well for a logos multiple executions... one other thing... southern cross uniquely new zealand?? isn't it visible everywhere in the southern hemisphere?

I saw in the Dompost the other day Apple are going into battle over Countdown/Woolworth's new logo. Was interesting to read that they felt that because Woolworths has branched into small electronic goods etc that the new brand was to close to Apple's. What are you're thoughts on that? I'll see if I can track that down.

Yes I have noticed in the downturn of the housing market, the smaller firms have been repositioning themselves in the market place.
particularly 'professionals' real estate with their direct mailing.

Started off with sending a flyer with a bar of motel soap attached to it saying you dont know us from a bar of soap with was ok abit cheesey but at least something physical.

the next one up'ed the anti and I liked - a nice packaged pack of sunflower seeds no real headline just really hears sum sunflower seeds plant them and enjoy which I have and I think they are growing!
so Hardcourts up the anti

The new logo was in some ways and not, a surprise for me. I didn’t think old one didn’t need to be updated, though I did think if it was to be updated, then the move to san-serif was the obvious one.

Goes without saying, using a serif typeface denotes a more serious, formal aesthetic - much suitable for a tertiary institution. San-serif, well, I’m not convinced… kind of looks cheap, but I'm no logo expert yet. I’m sure this re-design was done with the intention of making the CPIT more ‘cool’ and appealing to the younger target group.

The font is very bold, but it matches the stroke weight of the pattern. The logo is actually derived from Maori weaving patterns - so I learnt from Maori Art History last year!

Can’t emphasise how much how I am soo glad to see those ridiculous toaster ads gone!
